MediaBeacon R3volution 8.0 Release Notes

Features

  • User Interface
    • Badges on assets can now be configured to show on hover in Tile View.
    • Adding additional terms to the dictionary through the MediaBeacon web interface is now much easier and accomplished inline.
    • Pre-extended view now has an “expand” option that responsively fills the window.
    • Metadata form fields are now displayed condensed when empty for easier viewing.
    • New folders can now be created in the Move/Copy Selection dialog.
    • Asset counts can now toggled for display next to directories within the Directory Tree widget.
    • A "Tag Cloud" widget now exists that displays administrator selected data by size depending on its frequency.
    • Assets can now be dragged to a calendar within the R3Search Filter widget to have a date written to their metadata.
  • Searching
    • Multiple dictionaries can now be selected for bi-directional searching.
    • Clicking on "AND" and “OR" in the Search Status widget now toggles between the two options.
    • R3Search integer fields can now be searched on with a range.
    • CSV fields can now be searched with "is null" and "is not null" operators.
    • Searches on a record ID that produce a single record now automatically open that record in pre-extended view.
    • Force Dictionary fields with hierarchy checked can now be sorted in Text View.
  • Uploading
    • Upon the completion of an upload, the Notification Center now displays a link for the user to click that takes them to the list of assets from the upload (“Selection: upload_last”).
    • View widgets can now be configured to have drag-and-drop uploads be stored in the current directory.
  • Previewing
    • Animated GIF files are now previewable and loop.
  • Metadata Editing
    • Selection-based actions are now added to a queue instead of causing the user to wait for the action to finish.
    • Relative dates may now be configured on the M3TAForms Stamper widget.
    • "Append" is now an option for string fields upon bulk metadata edits.
    • MediaBeacon now supports Adobe CC 2015’s Dublin Core fields.
  • Metrics
    • Administrator changes to users and groups are now logged as actions for reporting in Metrics.
    • Metrics is now decoupled from change log, which significantly expands the data that is tracked by metrics.
    • "Field" is a new explorable in Metrics that allows administrators to view changes made to field configurations.
    • Possible to easily look at metrics for singular assets in MediaBeacon using their asset IDs.
  • Contact Sheets
    • Contact Sheets can now be generated to exclude asset filenames.
    • Assets can now be sorted prior to generating a Contact Sheet.
    • Now only administrators can delete any Contact Sheet templates. Additionally, Contact Sheet template creators are only able to delete templates they have created.
  • Check In/Out
    • MediaBeacon now tracks additional checkout details, useful for reporting and more.
    • New privileges have been added for more administrative control around Check in/out.
  • Videos
    • Annotations on videos are now sortable by date.
  • Versioning
    • "New version" is now available in the contextual menu for an asset, which prompts a user to upload a file. Previous versions are moved to the Managed Versions M3TAForm.
  • API
    • MediaBeacon now has an API Key exploration panel that allows the management and creation of API Keys.
  • Administration
    • Administrators can now generate a configuration backup, useful for help issues, that contains m-userinfo, mediabeacon.properties, and associated logs.
    • MediaBeacon now has a "Health" dashboard that allows various system checks to be run.
    • MediaBeacon now has an "Asset Feeds" panel that displays various information about configured asset feeds.
    • System properties that are prefixed with "mb" in the mediabeacon.properties file are now automatically pushed to remote nodes.
    • Upon upgrading MediaBeacon, the database now intelligently upgrades instead of dropping and rebuilding.
    • Metadata about IP addresses in the Application Whitelist panel on the MediaBeacon application is now automatically displayed.
    • Administrators can now change the priority of queued actions and previews in bulk.
    • Any annotations may now be edited by administrators by double clicking on them.
  • Logging
    • When data changes or is created, MediaBeacon’s log shows its old and new values.
    • A history entry is now created upon asset check in and check out.
    • Folder action imports are now included in logs and reports.
  • Security
    • In addition to already rate-limiting login attempts on remote connections, MediaBeacon now also rate-limits login attempts on the MediaBeacon server-side.
    • MediaBeacon now ships and runs with Java 8.
  • Workflow
    • Workflows can now be configured to process bulk edits in a batch for maximum performance.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts
    • Additional keyboard shortcuts are now available.
       

Fixes

  • User Interface
    • DataBlocks now display properly.
  • Searching
    • Fixes an issue where toggling between "AND" and "OR" searches in Taxonomy Browser did not show correct results when "allow multiple selections" was deselected.
  • Downloading
    • Improves the time it takes to start a large folder download through Tomcat.
  • Priority Queue
    • Corrects an issue where higher priority queue items were not processed in the expected order.
  • Mobile
    • Fixes an issue where audio playback couldn’t be paused on some mobile devices.
    • Resolves an issue where HTML5 audio playback would not work on some mobile devices.
    • Improves the Search Status displays responsively based on screen size.

Changes

  • Logging
    • Videos played within the MediaBeacon interface are now logged as "Playing" instead of "Quick Download."
  • Structure
    • The "m-themes" and "m-layouts" folders have been moved within "m-userinfo" on the filesystem.
