Antivirus Exclusions/Exceptions

Version: 8.x

Issue

We are excited to be partnering with you on your DAM software implementation. For any Antivirus software installed on our application servers, MediaBeacon requires on-demand scanning exclusions to several folders. As part of MediaBeacon's basic software functionality, it is common to write small amounts of metadata to hundreds or thousands of files at a time. On-demand (or on-access) Antivirus software scanning can cause considerable issues that create a less functional user experience in MediaBeacon. Scanning of MediaBeacon folders may be performed on a timed basis (such as nightly or weekly) without substantial impact on user experience.

To help build a performant interface in your environment, please make the exclusions to your Antivirus software on-demand scanning as outlined below.

Resolution

Things to Exclude

  1. The assets themselves
  2. The caches and temporary file locations, for example:
    1. C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\MediaBeacon
    2. C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\R3search
    3. C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Solr

Antivirus Exception Locations

  1. Core MB Servers
    1. MB Assets (Shared Files Directory)
    2. MediaBeacon Installation Location
    3. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\MediaBeacon
    4. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\R3search
    5. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Solr
  2. Preview Servers
    1. Mounted asset storage directory
    2. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\N3twork
    3. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp
  3. R3search Standalone Servers (similar to MB Core)
    1. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\R3search
    2. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Solr

Variants to these exclusions for Mac/Linux users are available upon request. Please reach out to your Project Manager if you have any questions or concerns about these exclusions.
