Places Browser

User

The Places Browser is a flexible widget that provides the user with shortcuts to ACLs, directories, saved searches and selections, hierarchical metadata, workspaces, and M4sterPlans. Additionally JavaScript and workflows can be executed by clicking the corresponding place.

Main Features

The Places Browser widget is presented as a hierarchical tree, similar to the Directory Browser, except each place link (represented by a red folder icon) on the tree can be arbitrarily assigned and arranged under or enclosing other links.

For example, an ACL place might contain two workspace links, or a directory link may be arranged under another directory link in an arbitrary fashion that does not represent or alter the actual folder structure.

The Places Browser can be used in three Display Modes; Tree, Menu and Button.

Arbitrary Hierarchy of Places

Places may be dragged into any arrangement of hierarchy, in a manner similar to folders. A user may mouse over a place, and the cursor will change into the "4 arrow" cursor indicating that the place may be rearranged. It is worth noting that deleting a place that has sub-places in its hierarchy will remove all sub-places as well.
