Workspaces

Workspaces

Overview

Workplaces_Splash.png

Workspaces are the containers that widgets are placed and arranged in. Workspaces appear as tabs in the interface, each having a customizable set of widgets with a given layout and theme. Workspaces have two basic modes, active and inactive. Clicking on a tab will show the contents of that workspace and make it the active workspace.

The user may add a workspace by choosing New Workspace from the Create menu. The "Add a Workspace" Dialog is then shown. The user makes a selection, and the new workspace is populated according to the chosen template.

The workspace's options can be seen by clicking the Gear Icon and choosing a command.

This Dialog may also be accessed via the Workspace Contextual Menu or the Manage menu.

Widgets Subpanels

Each type of widget has its own spindown subpanel where the user may add and remove widgets. A filter bar allows the user to type part of a widget's name to reveal it in the spindown panel.

Delete Workspace

This command will remove the workspace from the current ACL, but will not affect its availability in other ACLs. To permanently delete a workspace, it must be individually removed from each ACL to which it has been shared.

Share Workspace

This command allows users to save and share workspaces.

  • "Create a new workspace asset": This option saves the workspace settings as an .xmpper file that can be uploaded. The Load Workspace badge or Context Menu option of an .xmpper asset allows the user to import the saved workspace to the current ACL.

  • "Share this workspace with invited users": This option allows the user to create invitations for new users. The users are automatically added an ACL that contains the shared workspace when they login and activate their account.
  • "Share this workspace to another group": This option will copy the current workspace to a specified ACL in the chosen group. To remove a workspace from a particular ACL (i.e. unshare it), login to the ACL as an administrative user and choose "Delete Workspace".

Hide Workspace

Checking this checkbox causes the workspace to not appear as a tab, nor an item in the Navigation menu when not in Admin Mode.
